Unemployment Services Extended with Holiday Hours

MADISON - Department of Workforce Development (DWD) Secretary Roberta Gassman announced today that unemployment insurance staff will be working additional hours through January 8, 2004 to take claims by telephone, including some Saturday hours.

"Traditionally more workers file for unemployment insurance benefits at this time of year as many plants temporarily shut down because of the holidays and the weather. These extended hours will allow unemployed workers to get their claims filed on time," said Secretary Gassman. "To further assist workers with claims filing, the Internet option is also available to use in addition to the phone."

Those filing claims in Milwaukee may call 414/438-7700 and those filing in Madison may call 608/232-0678. All other areas may call 800/UCCLAIM (or 800/822-5246). Deaf, hard-of-hearing, and speech-impaired callers may call the TTY toll free at 888/393-8914.

All unemployment insurance services, including new claim filing, weekly benefit filing or requests for additional assistance or information, are available via the telephone or Internet at ucclaim-wi.org.
