Wales – Governor Jim Doyle today announced that workers who lost their jobs at New Castle Industries in Wales, Wisconsin will receive a variety of re-employment services from the Department of Workforce Development (DWD).
DWD received funding from the U.S. Department of Labor, Employment and Training Administration to assist the former employees of the company.
"We are grateful that the Department of Labor has agreed to assist these hard working residents, who were victims of poor economic conditions and stiff foreign competition," said Governor Jim Doyle. "These individuals and their families need and deserve this assistance."
DWD Secretary Roberta Gassman, head of the agency that administers Trade Adjustment Assistance (TAA) statewide, said "Our role, and that of our partner local Workforce Development Boards, is to connect unemployed workers to employment as quickly as possible. The receipt of this funding will help us provide benefits and reemployment services to the these unemployed workers so they may prepare for and obtain suitable employment. The workers may be eligible for training, job search and relocation allowances, income support and other reemployment services."
The Department of Labor determined that workers were eligible for assistance because increases of imports of articles like or directly competitive with products produced by these companies contributed to the total or partial separation of workers and to a decline in sales or production.
