JUNE LOCAL EMPLOYMENT FIGURES RELEASED

MADISON – Sixty-one of Wisconsin’s seventy-two counties saw some increase in their June unemployment rates, while eight experienced a decrease and three were unchanged from May in figures released today by the Department of Workforce Development.

"This month’s employment figures represent a fairly normal seasonal pattern for Wisconsin at this time of year," said DWD Secretary Jennifer Alexander.

Eleven of Wisconsin’s counties had an unemployment rate below 4.0 percent in June. The lowest rate was reported in Dane County at 2.7 percent followed by Sauk County at 3.4 percent and Vilas County at 3.5 percent. Buffalo, Door and Iowa counties all were reported at 3.6 percent. The states’ highest rate was experienced in Menominee County with a 14.9 percent unemployment rate. Ashland County was next at 9.6 percent followed by Juneau County at 8.6 percent.

When looking at the state’s metropolitan areas, which are adjusted for seasonal patterns, most experienced little change over the month. Five areas experienced an increase, three had a decrease and three remained the same. The highest metropolitan unemployment rate was reported in Racine at 6.6 percent, followed by Janesville-Beloit at 6.1 percent. The lowest rate was reported in Madison at 2.5 percent, followed by La Crosse at 3.8 percent.
