GOVERNOR ANNOUNCES
GRANT
TO HELP IMMIGRANTS ENTER THE WORKFORCE
MADISON – Gov. Scott McCallum announced today that the state will receive
$1.5 million to enhance employment services provided at one-stop job centers
across Wisconsin for people with limited English speaking skills.
Gov. McCallum said the federal grant money will allow the one-stop centers
to expand partnerships with faith-based and community-based organizations in
order to reach the under served immigrant population in the state.
"When people come to Wisconsin from other countries the best thing we
can do is provide quality services to help integrate them into the workforce
so they can provide for their families. This grant money will help us do
that," Gov. McCallum said.
"Wisconsin has been a leader in establishing one stop centers in every
corner of the state. There are currently more than 70 job centers that
individuals and families can visit in order to receive employment and
supportive services that will help them find and keep employment," said
Department of Workforce Development Secretary Jennifer Reinert.
Gov. McCallum said the grant money not only would expand services available
for individuals with linguistic and cultural barriers, but also provide
extensive outreach to families in need by fostering partnerships with faith-
and community-based organizations.
