Governor Presents February WIN Award to Rockline Industries

Madison – Gov. Scott McCallum announced today that Rockline Industries, located in Sheboygan, has won the February Governor’s Workforce Innovation Award (WIN), which recognizes individuals and organizations that create innovative approaches and outside -the-box solutions to develop and sustain Wisconsin’s workforce.

"Despite the struggling economy of the past year, Wisconsin still faces a labor shortage problem that will grow significantly over the next several years," Gov. McCallum said. "Rockline Industries knows what it takes to find and keep a high quality workforce and their efforts are paying off."

Rockline Industries, a familyowned company since 1976, has come a long way since beginning as a coffee filter manufacturer. Today, with more than 1500 associates in three states and the United Kingdom, Rockline is the leading manufacturer of coffee filters, baby wipes, moist towelettes and baking cups in North America.

Programs that enhance the skill levels of Rockline’s associates are very important at Rockline. Using a basic skills grant awarded by the state of Wisconsin, the company is able to hold on-site English as a Second Language classes and plans to add basic math, reading, writing, HSED classes this year. The grant has also allowed Rockline to purchase computers for its learning center, which will allow for even more basic skills training. Rockline works with its local technical college to conduct much of this training on-site. The company also has a tuition reimbursement policy and has conducted in–house supervisory training.

Rockline uses associate participation teams to improve working conditions, benefits, quality, and productivity. These teams , facilitated by human resources, have identified issues to improve upon related to diversity, employee recognition, production set up, attendance policy, etc.. The teams consist of production/office associates from all different levels and backgrounds.

Rockline has also been a leader in the wellness area offering programs and activities for associates throughout the year including free blood pressure and cholesterol screenings. Rockline has made a commitment to their associates and families in helping them attain better health and happiness. A fitness center reimbursement program allows associates to receive financial assistance to join organizations such as the YMCA.

The WIN Award highlights innovative approaches and solutions to overcoming barriers to work, empowering individuals to move up the job ladder, and partnering with employers, educators and local government to build a stronger workforce.
