GOVERNOR PRESENTS AUGUST WIN AWARDMADISON—Gov. Scott McCallum today announced that Employers Workforce Development Network, Inc. (EWDN) will receive the August Governor’s Workforce Innovation Award (WIN), which recognizes individuals and organizations that create innovative approaches and outside-of-the-box solutions to develop and sustain Wisconsin’s workforce. "The Employers Workforce Development Network is working hard to help businesses share resources and develop partnerships to recruit, retain and advance a quality workforce in northeast Wisconsin," Gov. McCallum said. "They realize that no business can afford to ignore the investment needed in human capital to survive in today’s global economy." EWDN is a network run by employers and for employers in the Green Bay area. Members work side by side with their peers and community organizations. Network members learn about resources in the community and have a chance to influence current and future programs and initiatives. The Network enables employers, public sector leaders and non-profit organizations to work together. Members of this group have worked especially hard at assisting employers make changes in their workplaces which enable them to better recruit, retain and advance individuals with barriers to employment such as low income and underskilled workers. Some of the Network’s activities include working on cost-effective and efficient ways to offer on-site training for employees, creating a model for English as a Second Language training, and exploring the development of learning centers, mentor training, supervisory training, GED’s, and an EWDN resource center. The WIN Award is presented each month to highlight innovative approaches and solutions to overcoming barriers to work, empowering individuals to move up the job ladder, and partnering with employers, educators and local government to do what works to build a stronger workforce. # # # Employers Workforce Development Network Members
