UNEMPLOYMENT INSURANCE TAX STATEMENTS
NOW AVAILABLE ON-LINE

MADISON – Department of Workforce Development (DWD) Secretary Jennifer Reinert today announced that individuals who receive unemployment benefits from the State of Wisconsin may now obtain copies of their tax statements off the internet.

Copies of 1099-G tax statements, which are needed to complete federal and state tax returns for each year in which unemployment benefits are received, are now available at www.ucclaim-wi.org

"Making these forms available on the Internet is a great way to make technology work for the Wisconsin taxpayer," said DWD Secretary Jennifer Reinert. "Rather than having to wait for important tax forms to arrive in the mail, taxpayers are now able to access their statement from the Internet immediately," she said.

Unemployment insurance benefits are considered income for federal and state tax purposes. Each year the Department of Workforce Development reports all unemployment insurance benefit payments to the Internal Revenue Service and the Wisconsin Department of Revenue, and mails form 1099-G to individuals to use with their tax returns. Forms are mailed no later than January 31st to the last known address, however address changes made since the last time a claim was filed often results in undeliverable mail and the individual not receiving information necessary to file their tax returns.

Secretary Reinert noted that security was taken into account in designing the Website.

"A Personal Identification Number (PIN) is required to obtain any tax information from this Website to assure complete security for the user," she said.

The site also allows access to tax statements going back six years for people filing late or amended returns.

This is one of many technology-friendly initiatives that will be announced by the department over the next year.
