CIBARICH RETIRES AFTER 44 YEARSMADISON – August ("Augie") Cibarich, Labor Market Analyst for the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development, is retiring today, after 44 years’ of state employment. Mr. Cibarich started working for the State of Wisconsin, with the Industrial Commission, on January 9, 1957. He began as a Placement Interviewer with the Commission’s Division of Wisconsin State Employment Service in Milwaukee. From there he worked his way up through the ranks to a Research Analyst, in September 1969 (the department was now called the Department if Industry Labor and Human Relations, or DILHR). In June 1974, Augie was promoted to Research Analyst Supervisor. In April of 1981, Augie became lead department Economist, the post he holds today. "August Cibarich has been the consistent voice of reason and knowledge for Wisconsin employment information for 20 years and a dedicated public servant for more than 44 years," said DWD Secretary Jennifer Reinert. "His stalwart ability to disseminate useful and accurate information to the public will truly be missed," she said. Augie is well known for his monthly press conferences on labor market information and has been quoted frequently by the press about monthly unemployment statistics. He is the most senior employee in DWD and was one of our employees selected to receive a proclamation from Governor Thompson on September 20th, recognizing him during Older Workers Week. He was also recognized at the Capitol by a teacher’s publication, which Sen. Fred Risser noted and sent him an honorary plaque. Augie celebrated his 70th birthday on September 5! After he retires, Augie will travel to Arizona in March to visit a friend and watch the Milwaukee Brewers in spring training camp. He plans some other future travels. -30- | |||
