NOVEMBER LOCAL UNEMPLOYMENT DATA RELEASED

MADISON – Fifty-two Wisconsin counties had unemployment rates below 4.0 percent in the month of November, according to statistics released today by the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development (DWD).

"We are pleased to see that unemployment rates remain low across most of the state, with 52 of Wisconsin’s 72 counties and 25 of the state’s 28 largest cities having rates below the national unemployment rate of 4.0 percent," said DWD Secretary Jennifer Reinert.

The Wisconsin seasonally adjusted November unemployment rate (released earlier) remained at 3.0 percent. November metropolitan area unemployment rates (released today) increased in four areas, declined in four and were unchanged in three on the adjusted basis.

Not surprisingly, our northernmost counties experienced unemployment rate increases as winter weather arrived and outdoor activity was reduced. Six northern counties had rates at or above five percent while 20 had rates at or above four percent.

In contrast to the location of the high county rates, the three highest city rates (all above four percent) are in the southern portion of the state and resulted from sluggishness in the manufacturing industry group.

Of the five lowest county rates, all were below two percent and are located in the southern portion of Wisconsin. Cities with low rates were also located in southern Wisconsin.
