MILWAUKEE – Governor Tommy G. Thompson and Department of Workforce Development Secretary Linda Stewart will host the Glass Ceiling Commission’s CEO Breakfast on Tuesday, June 27, 2000, from 7:30 – 9 AM, at the Milwaukee Club.

The Breakfast Initiative brings together area CEOs to talk about Glass Ceiling issues, such as workplace diversity, and the advancement of women and minorities into upper management and corporate boardrooms.

"These events bring together so many successful people who have been able to shatter the Glass Ceiling," Gov. Thompson said. "They are an inspiration to me, and I commend them for their willingness to share their experiences for the benefit of those who are facing race and gender barriers to career advancement."

Gov. Thompson created the Glass Ceiling Commission, and its annual Diamond Awards, in 1995.  The Diamond Awards recognize companies who have made great strides in advancing women into upper management and onto corporate boards.

"Wisconsin’s economy cannot afford a Glass Ceiling," Sec. Stewart said. "Now more than ever we need everyone’s talent, regardless of race or gender, to keep our economy booming and make Wisconsin a talent-magnet, to turn the brain-drain into a brain-gain."

The Breakfast is sponsored by ABB Flexible Automation, the Brady Corp., Blue Cross-Blue Shield United of Wisconsin, United Wisconsin Services Inc., and North Milwaukee State Bank. BC-BS United, ABB, and Brady Corp. are past Diamond Award winners.

The Breakfast will feature a panel presentation by Silas Nichols, President and CEO of ABB Flexible Automation, Glass Ceiling Commissioner Katherine M. Hudson, President and CEO of Brady Corp., Tom Hefty President & CEO Blue Cross & Blue Shield United of WI, Randy Myricks, President North Milwaukee State Bank, moderated by Glass Ceiling Commissioner Celeste J. Hoze.  Glass Ceiling Commissioner Sen. Margaret Farrow will introduce Gov. Thompson.
