DWD SECRETARY WILL HOST PRESS CONFERENCES
ACROSS THE STATE

Department of Workforce Development Secretary Linda Stewart will host a series of press conferences throughout the state on Wednesday, June 14, 2000 to announce the 18 awardees of Governor Tommy Thompson’s Early Childhood Excellence grants.

The announcements will take place at the following times and locations:

  • 9:00 a.m. at Gray’s Child Development Center, 6618 N. Teutonia, Milwaukee.
  • 11:00 a.m. at Next Generation Now, 1220 Mound Ave., Racine.
  • 1:30 p.m. at Encompass Child Care, Cornerstone Center, 345 North Broadway, Green Bay.
  • 4:00 p.m. at Bright Beginnings, 1612 Truax Blvd., Eau Claire.

Secretary Stewart will be joined by the recipients of the ECE grants.  Governor Thompson announced the creation of early childhood learning centers in his State of the State address. They are designed to engage children in the language arts and other activities that encourage creative learning and brain development in the early years of life.
