GOVERNOR APPOINTS OCONNELL AS INSURANCE COMMISSIONER
MADISON Gov. Tommy G. Thompson today appointed Connie OConnell as the state Commissioner of Insurance.
Gov. Thompson appointed Ms. OConnell, 34, to replace Josephine Musser, who resigned earlier this year. Ms. OConnell is currently the executive assistant at the Department of Workforce Development and will begin her new duties on Jan. 4.
"Connie is an outstanding administrator and manager, with broad expertise on insurance and consumer issues," Gov. Thompson said. "Her leadership skills and ability to successfully address challenging issues will serve the people of Wisconsin well."
Ms. OConnell joined the Department of Workforce Development in 1997, previously serving four years as policy director for Gov. Thompson. She also served as the governors chief advisor on state and national insurance issues and has a strong understanding of the regulatory process.
A graduate of UW-Eau Claire, Ms. OConnell earned her law degree from UW-Madison in 1996. A native of Rhinelander, she lives with her husband, Mark, in Sun Prairie.
