Submission deadline for
"Glass Ceiling" awards now Aug. 14

Madison, Wis. -- The Governor’s Glass Ceiling Commission announced today it has extended the deadline to Aug. 14 for its highest honor, the Governor’s Diamond Award.

The award recognizes efforts by Wisconsin businesses and organizations to promote women and minorities to management and top leadership positions.

Several companies have asked for more time to prepare their submissions, said Marlene Duffield, the Commission’s Executive Director. The original deadline was Monday (July 27).

Seven awards have been presented since 1995, when the recognition was first given.

The 1998 recipients will be honored at a special Glass Ceiling conference Oct. 21 in Milwaukee.

The application form and related information can be reviewed and downloaded from the Commission’s World Wide Web site at (http://www.dwd.state.wi.us/glassc/glassc1.htm)

Businesses, organizations, public agencies and institutions of all sizes are eligible to nominate themselves. Winners will be chosen by a panel of judges selected by the Commission.

Duffield said efforts that may qualify for recognition include recruitment, selection, development and retention practices which have increased participation of minorities and women in upper management.

For application information by other than the Web site, contact the Commission, P.O. Box 7946, Madison, WI 53707-7946, or call Duffield at 608/264-8786.
