
Linda Stewart, Secretary of the Department of Workforce Development, has named Orlando J. Canto to administer the Department’s Division of Administrative Services. He begins his new duties on February 3.
The Division provides support services to the program divisions, including human resources, fiscal operations, information technology, facilities management, strategic planning, policy analysis, purchasing, and printing.
As a senior budget analyst who has been with the Department of Administration since 1989, Canto has extensive experience with the DWD’s budget.
Before joining DOA, Canto was a member of the budget office of the Department of Health and Social Services who worked on the initial wave of welfare reform initiatives proposed by Governor Thompson as well as AFDC and Food Stamps.
Canto began state service with the old State Manpower Council. In the Governor’s Employment and Training Office, he was part of the team that worked on the transition from Comprehensive Employment and Training Act (CETA) to the current Job Training Partnership Act (JTPA) system.
Canto is on the board of directors of Centro Hispano and is active in other community issues. He is a resident of Waunakee.
