Wisconsin’s unemployment rate in January was 3.6 percent, up marginally from 3.5 percent in December but below the 3.7 percent of a year ago.
January’s 3.6 percent, seasonally adjusted, compares with 5.4 percent nationally.
January is the 24th successive month that the state’s unemployment has been below 4.0 percent.
“This is a good start to the year; Wisconsin’s employment situation remains steady and strong,” said Robin Gates, Deputy Secretary of the Department of Workforce Development.

Due to the methods of data collection and computation, unemployment rates in this report are subject to a margin of error of seven-tenths of a percentage point in either direction [e.g. a rate of 4.0% means the actual unemployment rate is between 3.3% and 4.7%]. The error range for the size of the change is two-tenths of a percentage point [a decrease of five-tenths of a percentage point means the change was between three-tenths and seven-tenths.] Employment and unemployment figures for the latest month are the best available estimates. Seasonally adjusted data is italicized.
