Assistant Deputy Secretary David G. Anderson
Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development
Dave Anderson was appointed Assistant Deputy Secretary of the Department of Workforce Development in December 2013.
Immediately prior to his appointment, he was District Director for Congressman Sean Duffy, where he served as a senior advisor to the Congressman and oversaw the operation of the Congressman's offices in Wausau, Superior and Hudson.
A 1978 graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Superior with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Social Studies and German, Assistant Deputy Secretary Anderson is originally from Hazelhurst, Wisconsin, and started his professional career as a High School German Teacher at Lakeland High School in Minocqua. While teaching, he was elected to the Oneida County Board of Supervisors and was a Supervisor, and later Chairman, for the Town of Hazelhurst.
In 1985, Assistant Deputy Secretary Anderson was named Regional Representative for U.S. Senator Robert W. Kasten, Jr., managing the Senator's Wausau office. He later served as the Senator's Deputy State Director with responsibility for overseeing the Senator's regional offices in Wausau, Appleton, and Madison.
Beginning in 1993, Assistant Deputy Secretary Anderson served as the Director of Appointments for Governor Tommy G. Thompson and was later the Director of the Governor's Northern Office in Hayward. He also served as a Policy Advisor and was the Executive Assistant to the Secretary of the Wisconsin Department of Financial Institutions, the state agency charged with regulating Wisconsin's financial services.
Assistant Deputy Secretary Anderson was Policy Director for Governor Scott McCallum in 2002. Anderson then accepted a position as the Government Relations Director for the Ruder Ware Law Firm in Wausau, assisting the firm’s clients in their interaction with government at the local, state, and federal levels. For the six years immediately prior to joining Congressman Duffy’s Staff, Assistant Deputy Secretary Anderson served as the District Director for Congressman Tom Petri in Fond du Lac.
Assistant Deputy Secretary Anderson and his wife, June, have two married daughters, Jennifer Carlson of Raleigh, North Carolina, and Stephanie Jenson of Phoenix, Arizona.
Assistant Deputy Secretary Anderson has been a long-time Rotarian and previously served on the Board of Directors of the Fond du Lac and Wausau Rotary Clubs and was the Membership Chairman for Rotary District 6220.
Assistant Deputy Secretary Anderson is a member of the Board of Curators of the Wisconsin Historical Society, the Circus World Museum Foundation, and the Board of Advisors of the Wisconsin Institute of Public Policy and Service. He is a former chairman of the Board of Directors for UW-Superior Alumni Association and is the President of the UW-Superior Foundation Board of Directors.
