DVR Training Report

Wisconsin Rehabilitation Council
Radisson, Green Bay
June 8, 2006

The following information is provided to update Council members on training activities since the April Council meeting:

Ethics Training Sessions conducted by Linda Hedenblad, Region V Regional Rehabilitation Counselor Education Program (RRCEP):

  1. March 7 & 8, Madison (28 attendees)
  2. April 4 & 5, Milwaukee (19 attendees)
  3. June 27 & 28, Waukesha (18 registrations to date)
  4. August 22 & 23, Eau Claire (15 registrations to date)

Twenty-three DVR staff attended the Governor's Workforce Development Conference in Appleton on May 17 & 18.

Forty-two DVR staff have been participating in the CANAR conference the past three days at this site.

From May 9 through today, six sessions of Labor Market Information workshops have been offered. With the exception of the session being held today in Madison, 15 DVR staff have participated to date.

Upcoming Regional Conferences for DVR staff will be held as follows:

  1. July 18 & 19 (Appleton)
  2. August 1 & 2 (Waukesha)
  3. August 15 & 16 (Madison)

A planning workgroup is meeting again next Monday to continue to work on the agenda. Because the agency has placed a high priority on teaming, this will be a major focus. Keynote sessions will address the areas of teaming and conflict resolution. In addition, the RSA 107 Report and related need for good case noting will be addressed in breakout sessions along with more in-depth attention to conflict resolution and an administrative update. All DVR staff, including Central Office Staff, are expected to attend one of the three sessions.

I am pleased to report that the Division's Training Officer, Bob Hovey, returned to work on May 25 after a tour of duty in Iraq with the Army Reserve. Much of his time is being spent on re-assuming duties that had been temporarily assigned to other staff in the Program Development Section during his absence and assuming full responsibility for the logistics and "trouble-shooting," which are so critical to a successful training event, for the upcoming regional conferences.

At the last Council meeting, members asked to be informed about conferences and training opportunities where DVR would be in attendance. Unless attendance is coordinated through central office (as with the Rehab & Transition Conference, Governor's Workforce Development Conference, CANAR), the electronic system does not allow for tracking of individual staff attendance at training events as these are generated and approved at the local level. Staff attendance is maintained in a person-by-person training history.
