Employment & Training Specialist - Lead, Local Veterans Employment Representative (LVER)

Salary Information:  Starting salary is $38,483 year, plus excellent benefits.  (Note for current state employees:  This position is in pay schedule 12; pay range 06.  Pay and benefits upon appointment for current or former state employees may vary according to the applicable pay transaction provisions of the Compensation Plan, Wisconsin Administrative Code and/or collective bargaining agreement.)    A six-month probationary period is required.  This position is in the Professional Social Services bargaining unit.

Introduction:  This position is with the Department of Workforce Development, Office of Veterans Services, located in Phillips, Wisconsin.  The Employment & Training Specialist – Lead, Local Veterans Employment Representative (LVER) provides employment services to veterans.

Job Duties:  Establish, maintain, or facilitate regular contact with employers, especially small and medium sized employers, to develop employment and training opportunities for the benefit of veterans.  Work with unions, apprenticeship programs, and the business community to promote “high technology” employment and training opportunities for veterans.  Attend Employer Relations committee meetings or confer with co-workers and representatives of partner agencies.  Recommend improvements in veterans related employer relations to local management.  Coordinate with employer relation’s representatives in the service delivery point to facilitate and promote opportunities for veterans seeking jobs.  Provide training and technical assistance to staff, partner agencies and employers regarding veteran’s priority and preference in job referrals and other issues.  Plan and participate in job fairs to promote services to veterans.  Provide outreach to veterans’ organizations, community-based organizations and other government agencies that service veterans and other eligible applicants.  For a complete job description, please see the position description.

Special Notes: SPECIAL REQUIREMENT -   Current law requires that the Employment & Training Specialist, Lead - Local Veterans Employment Representative (LVER) position be filled by a disabled veteran with a compensable, service-connected disability.

Knowledge Required:  Knowledge of:  employment and training programs available to veterans; public relations and employer relations principles and practices; effective job search methods, tools and practices; methods to establish productive, facilitative working relationships.  Ability to:  provide job search assistance and consultation to others; read and interpret policy, rules and procedures; work effectively in team environments to secure cooperation in situations where conflicting objectives exist.  Skill in using a PC in a Windows environment.  Leadership skills.  Written and oral communication skills, including public speaking.

(3) Working as a member of a work/project team or group (Identify the purpose of the group and the impact of the teams/group’s work; the composition of the team/group and where members were located; and your role in the group.)
